Italy Serie A Outrights, Betting Tips, Predictions & Odds

Serie A has fallen out of the top three leagues in Europe over recent years, after being overtaken by the Bundesliga. However, Italian football is having a comeback, and this season is set to be one of the best in recent memory. While Juventus are comfortably the best side in the country, there were plenty of signs last term that the chasing pack are catching up.

Heavy investment at AC Milan – which saw the Rossoneri poaching Juve’s best defender – has added even more interest. Napoli and Roma are set to kick on following their top three finishes last term, while Inter Milan have brought in Luciano Spalletti, which makes them contenders. Quite how these sides fit in to next season’s top four is a bit of dilemma, which should make this season thrilling.

Ahead of the new season we’ve picked out our best tips for this Serie A season, and there’s a lot of value to be found here.

Serie A winner prediction

Juventus have been hugely dominant in Italy of late, they celebrated their sixth straight title last season. However, losing Leonardo Bonucci to AC Milan has put them in a bit of trouble. Will that move make AC title contenders, and leave Juve short in the title race? We don’t think that’s the case.

The champions have Danielle Rugani to step in to the breach, while they were switching away from using three central defenders anyway. While it’s a blow to lose such a key man, Milan see him as an old head who can guide their young team, and that’s not enough to take their inexperienced side to the top of Italian football.

In truth, there’s still no side who can really match Juventus. The Old Lady have added quality in the shape of Douglas Costa, and after six straight titles they seem very well priced to win it again at 4/6 with bet365.

Juventus number of trophies prediction

Juve should cruise to the league title again this time around, but they are aiming to do more than just win Serie A. After making last season’s Champions League final and winning the Coppa Italia, multiple trophies will be demanded of Juve manager Max Allegri. Can he lead them to more glory?

After losing Bonucci, we doubt that the champions can make another push for the European Cup. However, they’ve won the cup in the previous three seasons, so we think bet365’s price of 11/4 on Juve to win two trophies this season is great value.

Without Juventus prediction

There’s going to be fierce competition behind Juventus this season, and we think Napoli are the side who will book a top two finish. They seemed unlucky not to finish second last year, after losing Arkadiusz Milik for a few months of last term, they dropped a few too many points that spell which cost them.

Dries Mertens stepped up in his place, and now he and Milik could fire them in to the top two. They’re the only one of last season’s top four who haven’t lost any key players, and they’ve bought well to improve their squad. We see them pushing Juventus this season, and we think the side from Naples are great value to come second at 13/8 with bet365.

Top Goalscorer Prediction

Andrea Belotti

Italy may be regarded as a nation of defenders, but last season saw plenty of high scoring games and clinical strikers. Gonzalo Higuain, Mauro Icardi and Mertens will likely be focused on again, but Andrea Belotti is a player we really like. He scored 26 times in 34 matches last year, while he’s a brilliantly versatile striker in a creative side who just pour forward.

He may not play for one of the elite clubs, but we think that works in his favour. The likes of Higuain could be rested for European and cup clashes, but Belotti will be basically ever present for Torino this term. The forward has been brilliant in his short Serie A career so far, even being linked with a £80million move in the summer. He could seem like great value at this price in a year’s time, as we’re tipping him to win the golden boot at a massive 12/1 with bet365.

Top Four Predictions

AS Roma

AS Roma

The fight for the top four is crucial this season, with five sides gunning for those four automatic spots in next season’s Champions League group stage. That’s a huge reward for Italian sides, with recent seasons seeing just two Serie A representatives in the last 32 of Europe’s biggest competition. Sides who are already there simply can’t afford to slip out.

Roma are one side who are desperate to finish in the top four. They were second last season, and they ultimately weren’t that far off Juventus. Having made a couple of smarting signings this summer, the Giallorossi should be able to improve. Having brought in transfer guru Monchi from Sevilla, expect some breakout stars at the Olimpico this term.

While Roma aren’t huge odds to finish in the top four, their price of 1/2 with bet365 seems like great value. They’d need to slip three places to miss out on Champions League football, and we think that they are good enough to secure a top four finish. We suggest backing them to return to the Champions League next term, as it seems overpriced in our eyes.

Season Match Bets

AC Milan to finish above Inter and Sampdoria to finish above Genoa

You can also bet on which rivals will finish higher come May, and there are a few great value options here. They include the two Milan sides, who are both aiming to return to the top of Serie A. While Inter have brought in a new manager, we can’t see them matching the quality of squad that AC have put together. However, the Rossoneri are 4/6 with bet365 to finish above Inter this season, which is a price that we suggest taking.

While Sampdoria and Genoa share a stadium, there’s a gulf emerging between them. Genoa were awful in the second half of last season, and they lost the majority of their star players in January this year. Sampdoria are going through a similar situation this summer, but we see them dealing with it much better. Samp have a great young side, and keeping Patrick Schick should help them finish above Genoa, which you can back at 8/11 with bet365.
