NHL Stanley Cup Winner Betting Tips
Toronto Maple Leafs
The Toronto Maple Leafs shocked alot of people last year, bouncing-back to finish 2nd in the East after the disappointment of the 2015/16 season where they finished rock bottom of the conference. The Leafs could be a worthy dark horse pick to win it all this year as their young roster proved that they have what it takes to win games over the course of a tough, long season in the NHL.
Last year, Toronto threw away more leads after leading the first two periods than any other team. They lost 15 total games in the third period and their OT/shootout losses also cost them on the season but this just shows the potential that this team has. If they can rectify this key mistake of last season, then maybe they can improve again this season.
The Atlantic division is one of the weakest in the league and the Leafs are one of the favourites to win it this year after losing out to the Canadiens by just four wins last time out – four extra wins they could have easily achieved had they been able to see some of those third period leads through to the final buzzer.
The X-factor for Toronto this year will once again be the number one pick from the 2016 draft, Auston Matthews. Matthews scored 40 goals last season, finishing as the rookie of the year in the NHL. If he can replicate that feat this season, the Maple Leafs will certainly be a strong team on offense once again.
NHL Eastern Conference Winner Pick
The Pittsburgh Penguins will be going for three consecutive Stanley Cup final appearances for the first time in the organisation’s history.
There’s no doubt it will be a challenge for the Penguins after losing the likes of Bonino, Kunitz and Cullen but they still look very strong on paper as they have added Reaves on offense and Zachary on defense who should both fit in nicely alongside the likes of Malkin and of course, league MVP, Sidney Crosby.
Coach Mike Sullivan will be a massive asset for the Penguins again this season. His ‘been-there-done-that’ mentality and experience will be key during the high pressure situations that his team will undoubtedly face throughout the season. The bond he has with his players is set to see them go a long way towards three Stanley Cup final appearances in a row.
NHL Western Conference Winner Pick
Coach Randy Carlyle proved last season that he has what it takes to make the Anaheim Ducks a play-off team. What he learnt about his players and the way the organisation works last year will put him in good sted to take the team a step further and perhaps be crowned Western Conference champions.
The 17/18 schedule looks to be very much in the Ducks favour with their biggest conference rivals being the Edmonton Oilers once again.
Their defense is one of the strongest and toughest in the West and is set to be a massive asset for them. If key forward players such as Getzlaf, Kesler, Vermette and Rakell can find a way to score more goals, then they will certainly be a very dangerous team to come up against.
