It’s a case of unfinished business on Tuesday night as Accrington Stanley and Guiseley renew hostilities in order to win a place in the second round of the FA Cup. A scoreless first meeting may have been seen as a good result for the National League strugglers but, unfortunately for them, we cannot see them repeating the trick this time around.
We think that Accrington should be able to prove their superiority at the second attempt and backing them to win to nil seems to offer the best value. Managers often complain of a busy fixture list and Stanley boss John Coleman will be determined to put this one to bed as early as possible, in order to avoid any threat of extra time and penalties. With this in mind, we think that backing them to win against a one goal handicap offers a good alternative to our main tip.
Accrington’s season has gone from strength to strength so far and Stanley sit in second place, just a point behind the League Two leaders. Although their defensive capabilities are not exactly famed, with four clean sheets in their last five outings, they appear to be doing all they can to change this perception.
Coleman’s men can rarely be accused of complacency either, as they have won against each of the bottom six in League Two and have conceded just four times in the process.
Complacency may be avoided in the league, but you would be forgiven for thinking that failing to win in the first leg was anything else. Such a trail of thought is perhaps harsh on the non-league side and, in truth, they looked the more likely to win a place in the next round. After such a solid performance, however, the worry must be that they have missed their opportunity to progress.
A cup run will be most welcome for Guiseley as they have struggled in their league campaign. They sit just above the drop zone in the National League and with just three league wins all season, it is easy to see why.
The Lions are the joint lowest scorers in the division and, even though they have become more difficult to beat of late, they have still failed to score in three of their last five outings. Failing to score isn’t a new trend for them this season either and they have failed to score in 53% of their outings this term.
