Cardiff come into this game in great form with 6 straight league wins heading into their trip to Griffin Park. While they’ve not been blowing teams away, with all of their last five victories coming by single goal margins, they’ve been consistently getting the results they need and at this stage in the season that’s all that really matters.
Given their form and the fact they are now just 3 points behind once runaway leaders Wolves, it’s hard to understand why they are way out at 13/5 to win this game with some bookies. Brentford can be backed at odds as short as Evens and while they are strong at Griffin Park, there’s no sense in that, with Cardiff having gone 10 league games without defeat, winning 8 of them.
Brentford meanwhile have lost 6 of their 12 competitive games in 2018 and that’s not been good enough to sustain a serious top six push. They could reduce the deficit on 6th place Middlesbrough to 5 points with victory here but they’ll do well to get it.
While they’ve only lost twice at home in the league this term and only once since their opening home match, it’s worth noting that they’ve drawn more matches at Griffin Park than they’ve won. 47% of their home league games have finished level and that’s another factor which has prevented them from breaking into the top six.
It’s also worth noting that their victories so far in 2018 have all come against struggling teams. They’ve not beaten anyone higher than 19th place Reading this calendar year, with their last three wins coming against the bottom three. Against the stronger sides they’ve tended to slip up and that doesn’t bode well for them here.
Cardiff’s excellent home record has formed the foundation for their success this term but it’s not like they’ve been totally reliant on it. They’ve avoided defeat in 71% of their away league games too and although they’ve still got some tough away games to come, they’ve been negotiating comparable tests to this one well of late.
They’ve taken 7 points from their last 3 on the road, with wins coming at Leeds and Ipswich, either side of a draw at Millwall. Those sides are all between 10th and 13th in the Championship and with Brentford in 11th, they should have no reason to really fear the trip to Griffin Park. Overall, the visitors certainly look more than capable of getting at least a point and backing Cardiff Double Chance looks the smart bet.
