With as many as three games in hand on some of their promotion rivals, Exeter City will still have their eyes firmly on the automatic promotion spots and they have the opportunity to take a step closer to that goal this Tuesday evening when they welcome an out of form Yeovil Town to St James Park. Given the form and the league placing of these two sides, we can only see the three points going to the hosts and for our tip we are backing Exeter to claim a vital victory.
There is a reason to be cautious, however, as the head to head record is locked with each side claiming five wins, five draws and five defeats in this meeting previously. That record is especially relevant given that Yeovil have claimed at least a point in each of the previous four clashes.
Exeter, however, seem to have hit form at just the right moment and they go into this match having claimed two wins and a draw from their previous three outings. With just 38 goals conceded all season in the league, and just two conceded in their previous three matches, the defensive stability is a major factor in their success and with just 37% of their conceded goals conceded on home soil, it appears the visitors will have an uphill task to even breach that defence.
Yeovil are in perhaps their poorest run of form of the season so far, as they come into this match having suffered four defeats in a row. Town’s hopes of reaching Wembley were put to bed in the Checkatrade Trophy last week following a 1-0 defeat to Shrewsbury Town in the semi final and with their spot in the Football League all but secured for next season, there is little left for them to play for other than pride.
