Reason For Guingamp vs Montpellier Betting Tips
Guingamp had a pretty torrid time of things last season as they ended up in a relegation battle. In the end they finished in 16th position, just five points clear of the first of the drop spots and showing a significant decrease on their impressive 10th place finish in the 2014/15 season.
This season has started in a much more promising fashion. They held Monaco to a 2-2 draw away from home in their Ligue 1 opener and then managed to get an impressive 2-1 victory at home against Marseille next time out.
A trip to Nancy awaited before the international break set in, and they didn’t settle for another away draw as they took their chances well and came away with a 2-0 victory courtesy of goals from Moustapha Diallo and Thibault Giresse. This, absurdly, leaves them at the top of Ligue 1 after three games, with them leading Monaco and Nice on goals.
Montpellier also had a difficult season last term as they went from challenging for the Europa League spots in 2014/15 to languishing in mid-table last year. They finished the campaign in 12th position, nine points adrift of the Europa League qualification spots and ten points above the relegation zone.
The new season hasn’t been particularly kind to them either, not least because of the loss of key midfielders Bryan Dabo and Jonas Martin in the summer transfer window.
The visitors managed to get an early win when they beat the out of form Angers 1-0 in their Ligue 1 opener, but the confidence from that win was quickly wiped out as Saint-Etienne beat them 3-1. A 1-1 draw at home to Rennes followed to leave them down in 14th position, although there’s a lot of time for them to break out of this run.
One thing Montpellier can take heart from is the fact that they’ve managed to find the net in all of their games so far. They have also scored in four of their last five away days in Ligue 1, and the fact that Guingamp are missing a host of defensive players through injury, means they are likely to find the net again on Saturday.
Guingamp have conceded in seven of their last eight home games in Ligue 1 too, although they have also scored in seven of these eight, so with Montpellier only keeping one clean sheet in their last six away days I can’t see Guingamp failing to find the net. This makes odds of 19/20 for Both Teams to Score look an attractive backing, so I’m going for that along with a 2-1 win for Guingamp at 17/2 for my correct score prediction.
