Both Guingamp and PSG had excellent starts to their Ligue 1 campaigns, registering wins by two goal margins. But they are both set to face tougher tests when they meet on Sunday evening, as PSG look to set an early marker in the 2017/18 title race.
Guingamp will have been pleased with their finish last term, managing to get 10th in the table after having a fantastic first half of the season, only to fall away later. A number of defenders have been signed in the close season, with Pedro Rebocho, Felix Eboa Eboa and Franck Tabanou all coming into the club in the past couple of months. Guingamp’s goal difference was acceptable at just -7 but the bookies see them as being vulnerable to getting dragged into the relegation scrap, unless they can get points on the board early.
PSG have been the focus of the football world with their purchase of Brazilian star Neymar from Barcelona. He is almost certain to make his debut for the club in this game and will be one of the favourites to get on the score-sheet. Last week it was the team’s talisman Edinson Cavani who notched alongside Javier Pastore as they cruised to a 2-0 victory against Amiens. PSG coach Unai Emery may well choose to bring Neymar on from the bench in this one, with the decorated striker not having had much game time recently before his transfer.
We think PSG will win this one but the value may well come from betting on by how many they will put past their opponents. With that in mind, we advise backing Guingamp + 2 on the Asian Handicap at odds of 1.62 with bet365. This bet would have been paid out in 18 of Guingamp’s 19 home fixtures in Ligue 1 last season, with one push.
For our correct score score prediction we think the visitors will win 1-0 and that bet is valued at 9/1.
And for those wanting to back an anytime goalscorer bet, we think Pastore is most likely to carry on his form from last week and bag another strike. That is valued at odds of 11/8 also with bet365.
