There’s no doubt about the biggest game in Serie A this weekend, as Inter Milan face Roma with the pair pushing for a place in the Champions League next season. With a heated battle for the top four spots in the league, these two can’t afford to slip up. However, both sides have seen their form fall flat of late, which has to be a concern heading in to a massive game. Can Luciano Spalletti get his side back on track against his former club, or will Roma jump back in to the top four on Sunday night?
Roma head in to this game without a win in four, while Inter are winless in their last seven. It’s not exactly the kind of form that will have their opponents quaking in fear, but those runs have allowed the rest of Serie A’s elite to solidify their positions. These two were in the title race not too long ago, but now Napoli and Juventus are surging clear. Lazio have managed to break in to the top four at Roma’s expense, while Inter need to end their awful run to avoid dropping out of contention.
The hosts will be delighted to have Roma up next, given their fantastic record against the Giallorossi over the years. Having Spalletti on their side obviously helps, as he effectively built their squad. The Inter manager has shown his ability by turning the Nerazzurri in to a force this term, he just needs to arrest their current slump and get them back on track.
On the plus side, Spalletti does have Mauro Icardi to call upon. The Argentine has been fantastic for Inter this season, he’s almost single-handedly kept them pushing for a place in the top four. Icardi has scored 51.4% of Inter’s goals in Serie A this season (18/35), the highest percentage in the big five European leagues. He tends to score the majority of his goals at home, and he comes in to this clash having found the net in back to back meetings with Roma. With that in mind, we’re backing him to score any time this weekend.
Icardi should feature among a few goals in this one, with these two sides both looking impressive going forward. Inter are averaging over two goals per game at home, while Roma have scored in 84% of their league matches. In the last four Serie A meetings between these two sides, both teams have found the back of the net, and that run should continue on current form. The pair are both conceding too many goals as well, so we can’t see this one finishing 1-1. With Inter in fine form at home and against Roma, we’re backing over 2.5 goals and BTTS, along with a victory for Spalletti’s men.
