Norwich and Sunderland remain to some extent unknown quantities as far as this Championship season is concerned. The Mackems have a much depleted squad and are following on from a torrid Premier League campaign and are finding their feet under Simon Grayson. Norwich meanwhile opted for a change in direction too with a new German coach in Daniel Farke and he’s added four of his compatriots to the playing squad. The early signs have been pretty positive and they’ll fancy they can bag all three points here.
The Canaries picked up a valuable point in a tough away game at Fulham on the opening day thanks to a late equaliser from substitute Nelson Oliveira. Judging by his celebration, he wasn’t best pleased to have been left on the bench but Daniel Farke made it very clear who is boss by leaving him out altogether in midweek. Where that leaves the Portuguese striker is anyone’s guess but Norwich do have options up front and plenty of goalscoring midfielders so the new boss can afford to take that stance.
His biggest task is improving the defence but by restricting free-scoring Fulham to just one goal last weekend, the early signs are positive. Sunderland aren’t likely to severely test them the way some sides might with former Canary Lewis Grabban, currently their first choice forward. He’s no Jermaine Defoe but has a decent record in this league and opened his account last weekend from the penalty spot.
In terms of creativity, Sunderland also look pretty short right now and you have to fancy a Norwich side that scored 1.85 goals per game last term, the joint best record in the Championship, to have much the better of the chances in this one. They are generally strong at home too and backing Norwich to Win at 4/5 looks like the value bet here.
