The clash between Port Vale and Exeter City in League Two this Tuesday evening is a meeting of two sides who have got very different aspirations for the remainder of the season. The hosts are hoping to win enough points to retain their spot in the Football League for another season, whilst the visitors are hoping to go on a charge towards automatic promotion and with it, maybe even the League Two title. The form of Port Vale means that we are expecting this fixture to go only one way and we think that an Exeter City victory looks like the way to go for our tip.
It has been a strange sort of season for Port Vale so far, they started off extremely poorly and found themselves in the danger zone fairly early on. Following relegation in the previous campaign, the board did not hang around in switching things up and in came former club captain Neil Aspin as manager. The switch seemed to have the desired effect as Vale climbed away from danger, but their form of late has left them dropping towards the bottom two once again.
If Vale are to remain in the Football League after this season then they are going to have to improve on their offensive output as they have managed to score just six times in their last seven outings, and when you consider that they failed to score in three of those seven fixtures then you will see why this is a problem.
Exeter City are certainly a side who hope to take full advantage of their hosts troubles in front of goal but the fact that they have failed to keep a clean sheet in their previous eight away matches must be a concern. Things haven’t been easy for the Grecians away from home but they will have earmarked this fixture as one they needed to win, following back to back fixtures against title rivals Luton and Wycombe going into this match.
