Victory here would be a 17th consecutive win in La Liga for Real Madrid and that would be a new record beating the previous 16 match streak set by Pep Guardiola’s all conquering Barca side in the 2010-11 season. Los Blancos don’t need much excuse to get one over on the Catalans but Zinedine Zidane will be more focused on getting the 3 points to really put the pressure on both Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. They meet later in the evening on a huge night of Spanish football action that sees the top four from last year meet.
Obviously Real will be pleased with how the season has gone so far but they’ve had a few scares along the way. Late goals in normal time and Extra Time saw them snatch victory from the jaws of defeat in the UEFA Super Cup and their Champions League campaign looked on course to be starting with a home defet. That was until two very late goals saw them see off Sporting Lisbon 2-1 at the Bernabeu. They only beat Celta Vigo 2-1 in Madrid also with Toni Kroos scoring an 81st minute winner so there are glimmers of hope for Villarreal here.
The visitors have just hit some form too with all of their 3 games since the international break resulting in victories. With a new coach named just days before their season opened and plenty of new players, it was always likely to take a few weeks for them to find their stride. However, things are looking up now for the Yellow Submarine and they can head here without any real pressure on them. They are still playing some excellent passing football at times and with Denis Cheryshev now fit and Nicola Sansone, who scored twice at the weekend, looking a threat up front, they have enough to cause Real Madrid some problems in this game and grab a goal.
However, Los Blancos should still win the game given they are set to be boosted by the return of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale, who both missed the 2-0 win at Espanyol at the weekend. Given that backing Real Madrid to Win & Both Teams to Score at 6/4 looks to offer value here, especially given Real have won but also conceded in all 3 home games so far this term.
