Reason For Senegal vs South Africa Betting Tips

These sides met in Polokwane last week with Senegal winning 2-0 to secure top spot in this group and qualify for the 2018 World Cup. Few can argue that they are the strongest team in this group and we should see them round off an impressive campaign with another win here.

Senegal are yet to lose in qualifying and it feels like they have their strongest side since the class of 2002, which caused a real stir by reaching the Quarter-Finals in their first and until now only World Cup. They could be dangerous outsiders in Russia, with a disciplined side that has only conceded twice in five matches in this group and has a sprinkling of star quality at the other end in the shape of Sadio Mane.

They were too hot for South Africa to handle on Friday and with their home fans behind them and in celebratory mood, it’s really hard to look past a Senegal win here. They’ve a fine home record with 14 wins and 6 draws from their 20 home World Cup qualifiers this century.

There’s not enough about South Africa to suggest they will trouble that impressive unbeaten run. They need to win here to avoid finishing bottom in the group and you sense they really lost hope when one of their two wins, which was against Senegal, was erased from the records due to some highly questionable refereeing.

Their squad is mostly locally based and it lacks any real big names or genuine top class quality. With 4 defeats from their last 5 matches, they will make the trip to Dakar not in the best of spirits and backing Senegal -1 Handicap looks like the smart bet.

Head To Head

The sides met just a few days ago in a replayed game, with Senegal winning 2-0 in South Africa to seal progress into the World Cup. The original fixture had produced a 2-1 South Africa win last year but was annulled due to some dodgy refereeing. 3 of the previous 4 meetings had been drawn.

Senegal vs South Africa Stats

6 of Senegal’s last 8 home World Cup qualifying wins have been by 2 or more goals. South Africa have lost 5 of their last 10 away qualifiers.

Senegal Team News

Sadio Mané has been carrying a niggle and Liverpool took the extraordinary step of sending their own physio with him for this international break. He played 90 minutes in South Africa last week though and could do so again here with few changes likely following a fine display.

South Africa Team News

South Africa may mix things up with qualification no longer a possibility. Midfielders Andile Jali and Siphiwe Tshabalala could be drafted in having come off the bench last time out.
