This is a fixture which will have an impact on both the relegation scrap and the battle for the play-offs. Sheffield United find themselves in 9th place and they’ve rarely been that far down at any point this season but victory here would see them move back to within two points of the top six. It’s a game you feel they simply have to win if they are to be realistic contenders.
As for Burton, they at least have fond memories from their last trip to the Steel City when they won 3-0 at Hillsborough. Their only win since then was also in Yorkshire at Barnsley but this match will be much tougher you sense and their overall struggles have ensured they remain in the bottom three heading into this.
For a side that hasn’t won at home since September, it’s remarkable that they are still in with a genuine chance of beating the drop. That has more to do with the incompetence of the sides around them in truth but Burton could potentially climb out of the relegation zone on Tuesday if they win this.
It’s very hard to see that happening though. Burton have looked weak at both ends of the pitch but particularly going forward of late. They’ve failed to score in 5 of their last 6 matches and in exactly half of their league games this term overall. Sheffield United may have lost their way slightly but Bramall Lane is still a tough place to go.
The Blades have won their last two at home in the league and their decline isn’t quite as severe as it might seem. It’s been more a case of other teams finding great runs of form, while Sheffield United have struggled for consistency. They’ve taken 10 points from their last 6 in the league, which isn’t a bad return when you consider all of the last four have been away.
Their overall home record is still very good. They’ve a 59% home win ratio, excellent going for a team that had spent several years in League One prior to this campaign. They’ve only conceded 0.94 goals per home game this term and up against the division’s second lowest scorers, backing Sheffield United to Win to Nil looks to offer value.
Going for a 2-0 Sheffield United Win looks good in the Correct Score market as Burton haven’t been losing heavily of late, with 5 of their last 6 matches featuring under 2.5 goals.
