Newly promoted Strasbourg will be hoping to bounce back after a demoralising opening day defeat to Lyon when they welcome Lille to Stade de la Meinau on Sunday afternoon. The home side were hammered 4-0 and never looked in the game at any stage. This weekend however provides the perfect chance for them to back on track, although Lille look to have had a revival of their own.
While last week’s first game of the season was a difficult fixture, Strasbourg were still expected to put up more resistance against Lyon. Strasbourg are the least likely side of the three to be demoted back to the second tier according to the bookmakers, and there are games in the coming weeks that look as if they can get some much-needed points while they still have momentum. The start comes on the back of a more than solid pre-season friendly programme in which the side were unbeaten.
Lille meanwhile look as if they have been transformed under new coach Marcelo Bielsa if last week’s 3-0 win over Nantes is anything to go by. A huge number of players have come into the club over the summer period as the team looks to improve on a poor campaign last season when they finished only 11th. It is a far cry from the glamour of the Champions League which the side managed to qualify for more than a decade ago.
Considering last weekend’s result, we see the away side taking the three points here. Lille look to be back to their best and Strasbourg could be vulnerable after conceding four times on the opening day and failing to score. We are advising backing a Lille win at odds of 23/20 with bet365.
For our correct score prediction, we see Lille winning the match 2-0 and that bet is valued at odds of 9/1 also with bet365.
