Villarreal come into this match in better spirits than they did before the international break. 2 wins so far this week have given a boost to their new boss and re-shaped team. They won 2-0 at Malaga last weekend and came from behind to win 2-1 at home to Zurich in the Europa League on Thursday. It wasn’t the dominant performance many had expected though given their opponents play their football in the Swiss Second tier. They are still missing their first choice strike duo but the likes of Alexandre Pato and Nicola Sansone have done okay in their absence and they look to be slowly gelling as a team.
This won’t be an easy game though against a Real Sociedad side that looks to have strengthened over the summer. Their opening performances and results have been mixed but their 2-0 win at Osasuna in their only away game so far suggests they are still going to be a decent side on the road, where they enjoyed some fine days last term.
Sociedad have won 3 of their last 5 La Liga away matches and that includes trips to Valencia and Sevilla so they are not afraid of playing the bigger clubs away and battled hard for a 0-0 draw at El Madrigal as recently as April. Their new-look strike-force that includes Willian José and Juanmi has potential and both players have already opened their accounts for La Real. With the jury still out to some extent on post-Marcelino Villarreal, they have every chance of getting a result here particularly given their opponents have only had 72 hours to recover from their game in Europe.
Therefore backing Double Chance – Real Sociedad or Draw at 19/20 looks a decent shout here.
