Burnley vs Southampton
Burnley were expected to be in real trouble this season, but their home form is keeping them in a promising position so far. They have won five of their last six at Turf Moor and have only lost three times there all season. This is thanks to an exceptionally determined defence, and they now face a Southampton side who are missing Charlie Austin and Sofiane Boufal. Another clean sheet could well be on the cards here, especially considering Southampton had a midweek League Cup clash and could be tired after that. The visitors have only won two of their last nine games and have won three out of 15 on the road this season. I’m expecting a low scoring game here, but Burnley should be able to get the win against a Saints side lacking up front, so 1-0 looks good to me.
FST predicts -1-0 Burnley
Hull vs Bournemouth
Hull may be stepping in dangerous territory in the Premier League, but they have proven difficult to beat at the KCOM Stadium this season. They have only lost one of their last five there, and a newfound attacking spirit has resulted in five of their last six matches ending with at least three goals scored, including four of their last five at home. Bournemouth are no strangers to entertaining matches either, with at least three goals being scored in seven of their last eight league matches. This includes each of their last four on the road, so we’re expecting a high scoring affair here. I can’t pick a winner though, so a 2-2 scoreline looks the most promising option.
FST predicts – 2-2 Draw
Sunderland vs Stoke
Sunderland may still find themselves in relegation trouble, but their home form has picked up significantly since their dreadful start to the season. They have won three of their last six at home and only lost once, and now they face a Stoke side who have hit another rough patch recently. Their 2-0 loss to Wolves in the FA Cup makes it four losses from their last seven in all competitions, and away from home they have won just two of their ten league games. Their recent away defeats did come against the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, and Chelsea, which is understandable but will have still knocked their confidence. I think Sunderland’s home form is enough to get them the three points on Saturday, but their defence is unlikely to keep a clean sheet so a 2-1 win looks good to me.
FST predicts -2-1 Sunderland
Swansea vs Arsenal
Swansea’s disastrous season continued last weekend as Hull knocked them out of the FA Cup to make it five defeats from their last six matches in all competitions. It doesn’t get much better at the Liberty Stadium either, with seven defeats in their 11 home games. They have conceded 23 goals in their ten Premier League home matches too, giving them the worst defensive record in the league. Arsenal may have struggled a bit of late, but against a defence as shambolic as the Swans’ I think the in form Olivier Giroud could have a field day. Arsenal have won three of their last six on the road despite their dip in form, so I think three points is on the cards here. They haven’t kept a clean sheet in their last nine away days though, so a 3-1 correct score prediction looks the best option.
FST predicts -3-1 Arsenal
Watford vs Middlesbrough
Watford ended their winless streak last weekend in the FA Cup, and despite now facing Premier League opposition they do know that Middlesbrough are winless on the road since their first away game of the season. They have lost five of their ten away matches since then, and despite a very tight defence they can’t seem to make it worthwhile at the other end. This makes for a potentially low scoring game on Saturday, but I think Watford have the edge. Middlesbrough have performed well against the top teams in the division but seem to fall down against similarly strengthed sides, whilst Watford have picked up a few home wins against teams of a similar stature to Middlesbrough. This makes a low scoring 1-0 scoreline look a good option here.
FST predicts – 1-0 Watford
West Ham vs Crystal Palace
West Ham may have suffered an humiliating defeat to Manchester City last weekend, but they now face one of the most out of form sides in the Premier League. Crystal Palace have lost ten of their last 14 games and a host of their most influential players are doubtful for this clash. They are also missing Bakary Sako and Wilfried Zaha due to the African Cup of Nations, whilst West Ham have beaten Burnley, Hull, and Swansea recently. These are all teams of a similar level to Crystal Palace, so despite The Hammers’ troubles against the more talented opponents they will feel confident of getting a win here. Palace’s attack has been very good so far this season though, so a clean sheet for the hosts looks unlikely.
FST predicts – 2-1 West Ham
