What better league to bet on the ‘Anytime Goalscorer’ market than in the German Bundesliga?
Germany’s top flight has held the highest goals per game average among Europe’s elite in 27 of the last 28 seasons, after all.
And with one of the tightest Golden Boot races in years underway over on the continent, there are a number of notable names popping up on the scoresheets each week.
With that in mind, let’s take a more detailed look at a few of the players worth keeping an eye on for some Bundesliga ‘Anytime Goalscorer’ tips this weekend.
Wout Weghorst (WOLFSBURG vs Fortuna Dusseldorf) – 6/4
Wolfsburg’s Dutch giant Wout Weghorst (picture above), standing at just under two meters tall, is looking to cement himself as one of the signings of the season as the 18/19 campaign draws to a close. He has failed to find the back of the net in each of his last three outings – against Gladbach, Bremen and Bayern at that – but looks a cracking price to get back on track this weekend.
Weghorst has scored three goals in 2019 so far – his most recent in a 3-0 win at home to Mainz in mid-February – and needs just one more to better Wolfsburg’s 17/18 top scorer Daniel Didavi (9) – a target he will no doubt want to reach. He’s a talented forward who is also on penalties, with a 100% scoring record, one of which came against Dusseldorf in the reverse fixture.
Jadon Sancho (Hertha Berlin vs BORUSSIA DORTMUND) – 2/1
18-year old English winger Jadon Sancho is one of many young talents thriving in the Bundesliga. He signed his first senior contract with Borussia Dortmund in 2017 after a move from Manchester City, but the 2018/19 campaign has very much been his breakthrough season. And what a breakthrough it has been.
Sancho has made 25 appearances in the league this term, scoring eight goals and creating ten assists. Two of those goals came in a 2-2 draw at home to Hertha Berlin – Dortmund’s opponents this weekend – and he should have a good chance for a repeat of that with the Berliners not doing too well defensively over the past few weeks.
Kai Havertz (BAYER LEVERKUSEN vs Werder Bremen) – 6/4
19-year-old Kai Havertz is another one to watch for the future. Tipped to be the next Michael Ballack or Toni Kroos, both former Bayer Leverkusen players, the attacking-midfielder has been thriving in the number 10 role under boss Peter Bosz, who took over at the club just before Christmas.
Havertz has scored ten goals in 23 Bundesliga outings this season – the second highest scoring player at the club – but, notably, six of these have come since coach Bosz took over. His ability to run into the space created by Leverkusen’s quick attackers should cause Bremen problems on Sunday.
Luka Jovic (EINTRACHT FRANKFURT vs Nurnberg) – 5/6
Frankfurt’s Luka Jovic is the Bundesliga’s second top goalscorer going into the weekend – just two goals behind Bayern’s Robert Lewandowski – and the Serbian forward is our one to watch on Sunday. The Eagles are in top form ahead of a visit from basement boys Nurnberg and there are a number of stats that back them for another convincing win.
No side has conceded more away goals than Nurnberg, which bodes well for Jovic, who has scored eleven his fifteen goals at home. Unsurprisingly, many of his goals have come in more favourable fixtures too – he bagged a massive FIVE in a 7-1 win at the Commerzbank Arena against the other promoted side Dusseldorf earlier this season!
