Dortmund out to 9/4 for the title but who has the best run in? Includes 9/1 Double!

Can Dortmund hold their nerve in the title race? Will any team throw a spanner in the works for Bayern Munich? Free Super Tips analyses the Bundesliga run-in with just ten matches to go.

How things stand in the Bundesliga

Bundesliga Table Mar 2019

Borussia Dortmund held a six-point lead atop the table at the season’s half-way mark but Lucien Favre’s men have had the wind taken from their sails over the past few weeks.

A run of just one win in eight across all competitions (W1 D3 L4) sees Dortmund out of the German Cup and Champions League and the gap between themselves and reigning champions Bayern reduced to just two goals.

Dortmund’s reduced schedule could prove advantageous in their search for a first Bundesliga title since 2012 – Bayern are still in both of those competitions – but who has the better fixtures to come?

League form in 2019: W3 D3 L1

Borussia Dortmund will be happy to be back on home soil after back-to-back away defeats to Augsburg in the league and Tottenham in the Champions League over the past few days.

Der BVB have dropped just four points in front of their own fans this term – in fact, Dortmund hold the best home record in the division (W10 D2), which includes a dramatic 3-2 win over reigning champs Bayern – and half of their remaining fixtures will be played there.

Stuttgart, Wolfsburg, Mainz, Schalke, and Fortuna Dusseldorf are their upcoming opponents at Signal Iduna Park, none of which are in the top six, so it wouldn’t be unreasonable to see them get maximum points from those games.

On the road, however, their matches are a bit tricker. A trip to Borussia Monchengladbach, who hold the second-best home record at this stage, on the final day of the season concludes a run that includes a second encounter with Bayern Munich – this time at the Allianz Arena.

Dortmund did the double over Bayern in each of their title wins in the 2010/11 and 2011/12 seasons, but they haven’t won a Bundesliga match there since 2014. Can they find it in them to do it again?

League form in 2019: W6 D0 L1

Bayern Munich’s chance of retaining the title for a seventh successive season was in jeopardy before Christmas but a run of 11 wins in their last 12 matches has reignited those ambitions.

Bayern’s numbers have improved at a time when Dortmund’s have declined and the latter’s slip up against Augsburg last weekend – along with their Champions League knockout against Tottenham – will no doubt give the Bavarians more confidence.

Not that more confidence is needed…

Niko Kovac’s men top the rankings for expected goals scored (xG – 59 to Dortmund’s 45), expected points (xPTS – 55 to Dortmund’s 45), and expected goals against (xGA – 21 to Dortmund’s 27), which is to say that the Bavarians are “unlucky” not be top of the table already.

An extra home game over their remaining ten matches gives Bayern an even further advantage over league leaders Dortmund – it’s debatable whose set of fixtures is more favourable overall – and this will no doubt be pivotal in the crucial ‘Klassiker’ clash still to come.
