Reason For AC Milan vs Manchester United Betting Tips

Gennaro Gattuso is approaching his first full season in charge of AC Milan, and after such an extraordinary career with I Rossoneri there is an awful lot on the line for a legend of the club. Gattuso took over at the tail end of 2017 and led Milan on an excellent run in his first few months. However, their form dipped somewhat in the closing stages of the season and the fans will be hoping for a vastly improved offering in the coming season.

Gattuso has brought a strong squad to the United States as well, although the absence of Carlos Bacca is clearly a hint that the Colombian man is for sale. Apart from that, only Pepe Reina, Ivan Strinic, Andrea Conti, Lucas Biglia, and Ricardo Montolivo have been left at home.

Manchester United are without a fair few players too, with the most notable being David De Gea, Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard, and Romelu Lukaku. However, there is still plenty of star quality in Jose Mourinho’s squad, including an almost full strength back line and Alexis Sanchez and Anthony Martial in attack.

Sanchez and Martial both started in Manchester United’s last friendly against San Jose Earthquakes, with Martial deployed in a central striking position amid speculation about his future. To be honest it didn’t really pay off for him, and on the whole it was a dour performance, given the quality of the opposition.

Mourinho’s men managed just a single shot on target in that goalless draw, whilst their MLS opponents managed to test The Red Devils’ two keepers seven times. This followed on from a similarly underwhelming 1-1 draw against Club America, with the Premier League giants hitting the target just three times in that game.

Anybody hoping for an high scoring, entertaining game here might be sorely disappointed. Seven of Manchester United’s 13 friendlies since Mourinho took charge have seen fewer than three goals, and since Gennaro Gattuso took charge at the San Siro they have seen fewer than three goals scored in 19 of their 33 games.

This makes these odds for Under 2.5 Goals look very attractive indeed, especially given Manchester United’s performances in their last two friendlies. We’re backing that along with a 1-1 correct score predictions.19/33

Head to Head

AC Milan and Manchester United have met one another six times, with three wins apiece for each team. All of these have been in the Champions League, with the last meeting being an emphatic 4-0 win for Manchester United in 2010.

AC Milan Team News

AC Milan Team Badge Gennaro Gattuso has travelled to the United States without Pepe Reina, Ivan Strinic, Carlos Bacca, and Ricardo Montolivo. Nikola Kalinic is present after flying home from the World Cup early, with newcomer Alen Halilovic in the squad. Gianluigi Donnarumma, Hakan Calhanoglu, and Andre Silva are among the other big names expected to play.

Manchester United Team News

Manchester United Team Badge Manchester United are missing a wealth of first team talent due to the World Cup, with Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard, David De Gea, and Romelu Lukaku all resting. However, Alexis Sanchez' visa issues were resolved and he played against San Jose Earthquakes, and with Luke Shaw, Juan Mata, Scott McTominay, Antonio Valencia, Eric Bailly, Chris Smalling, Anthony Martial, and Ander Herrera all in the squad there is still plenty of quality.
