Reason For Alloa Athletic vs Ross County Betting Tips

Ross County may be the holders of the Scottish League Cup after their victory against Hibs at Hampden in March but they have a fair amount of work to do if they are to even make the last 16 this year. They have been really unconvincing in their opening two games needing a late penalty from Brian Graham to secure a 1-0 win at Montrose and another penalty from Graham to secure a 1-1 home draw against Raith on Saturday. They lost the resulting shoot-out against the Championship side and there is little margin for error now here with only the group winners guaranteed to make the next stage.

Defeat against Alloa will see the holders eliminated from the competition and would put the League One side in the box seat to claim top spot. They’ve won their opening two games and in convincing fashion thanks to a 4-0 home win against Cove Rangers of the Highland League followed by a solid 2-0 win at Montrose last time out. Greg Spence and Isaac Layne netted in both games so they are playing some good stuff in the final third right now and will provide Ross County with a real test.

The Premiership side are suddenly a big scalp for sides having won the trophy last year and perhaps they are not entirely comfortable with that. Ross County have always been a side that have relished their underdog tag but there is a great deal of pressure on them here as they head to the Indodrill Stadium for a game they need to win to keep matters in their own hands and daren’t lose.

Alloa have looked good in their opening two games though and Ross unimpressive so you couldn’t think about backing the visitors to win when they are as short as they are with the bookies. Therefore the value here looks to be found by backing Double Chance – Alloa or Draw at 5/4.

Head to Head

Alloa actually have a fantastic overall record against Ross County, losing just 1 of their last 14 clashes. They've not met much recently though with the Dingwall club in the higher league.

Alloa Athletic Team News

Alloa Athletic Team Badge Ross County are likely to make changes after another unconvincing display. Brian Graham and Alex Schalk are likely to come in to the side.

Ross County Team News

Ross County Team Badge Alloa boss Jack Ross indicated he would rotate the team in this competition and has done that but given they now have a realistic shot at qualifying for the knock-out stage, he will surely name his strongest eleven here.
