Reason For Augsburg vs Bayer Leverkusen Betting Tips
Augsburg’s form took a turn for the worse last weekend as a 2-0 defeat away to the out-of-form Mainz 05 saw the South Germans’ two match winning streak come to an abrupt end. Visitors Bayer Leverkusen should be looking to take advantage of this and build on last Saturday’s emphatic 3-0 win at home to 3rd-placed Eintracht Frankfurt – a win which has given Leverkusen’s search for Champions League qualification a new lease of life.
Leverkusen are the bookies’ favourites here at 13/10 with bet365. While the odds on the visitors offer some decent value, we feel that “Bayer Leverkusen to Score in 2nd Half – Yes” should be a safer bet here for the following reasons: both Leverkusen’s and Augsburg’s respective away scoring and home conceding averages trend towards goals in the 2nd half – Leverkusen have scored the majority of their away goals (7 of 11) in the second half (64%) while Augsburg have also conceded the majority of their goals at home (8 of their 14) in the last 45 minutes (57%). Leverkusen’s consistent second half goals see their average minute for a goal scored in the 62nd minute and, notably, five of Leverkusen’s eleven goals on the road have been scored in the last 15 minutes (45%) – the visitors certainly love a late goal!
Leverkusen’s Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez, who found himself lacking confidence after a hard few months, should also be back to his best here. The Mexican striker finds himself in fine form after a dry spell, as two goals against Frankfurt last weekend took him to three goals in his last three outings. Given Augsburg’s recent defensive inconsistencies, conceding two goals in three of their last four matches, he’d be a decent shout to continue his form as an anytime goalscorer bet here (odds to follow).
Though Augsburg have lost just two (against Bayern Munich and the in-form Hoffenheim) of their last eight matches at home (W3 D3 L2) over a tricky set of fixtures, the hosts have never won a competitive fixture against Leverkusen (D4 L8) and have even been waiting over four years for a win on a Friday evening (D3 L8). As Leverkusen head into this with momentum and scoring form – Leverkusen have scored two or more goals in three of their last four Bundesliga matches – we feel that the visitors should be able to clinch three points here. Given Leverkusen have kept a clean sheet in just 11% of their matches on the road, however, a goal for the hosts could also be on the cards. As such, a 2-1 Leverkusen win at 17/2 seems about right here.
Head to Head
Leverkusen drew 0-0 at home to Augsburg when the two sides last met in September 2016. Leverkusen have never lost away to Augsburg (W0 D2 L4).
Augsburg Team News
Augsburg have just a few absences: Brazilian winger Caiuby remains out with knee problems. Forward Alfred Finnbogason remains doubtful, alongside midfielders Baier and Moravek.
Bayer Leverkusen Team News
Bayer Leverkusen will be without star midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu, who has been banned for four months for a breach of contract with Turkish side Trabszonspor. Center back Jonathan Tah is also doubtful.
