Fellow strugglers Cardiff and Derby meet in South Wales on Tuesday night in the Championship. Our betting tips suggest the points will be shared.

Reason For Cardiff vs Derby County Betting Tips

Before a ball was kicked Cardiff and Derby would have been hoping to at least mount a challenge for the top six this year, having finished 8th and 5th respectively last season. However, it hasn’t gone to plan for either side and that’s putting it mildly. They are both languishing in the bottom four with only 3 wins between them.

Derby have only scored 3 goals in the league so far and Nigel Pearson is a man who really needs a result to kick-start his team’s season. They hit their lowest ebb on Saturday with a 2-1 home defeat against fellow strugglers Blackburn and it’s just 1 point from 5 league games now for the Rams. One minor positive note as far as their chances here go is that their best two results this season have come away. They won 1-0 at Preston and drew 1-1 at Bristol City in their most recent away game and they will face a Cardiff side who have been just as inept as they have.

Cardiff did win at the weekend though, with two goals from Rickie Lambert in the space of six 2nd half minutes securing a 2-1 win at Rotherham. It was a much needed boost for both the striker, who has had a rough time of it since leaving Southampton, not to mention coach Paul Trollope, who already must feel like he is battling to keep his job. The Bluebirds had lost 4 matches in a row prior to that but should at least come in marginally the more confident of the two sides.

This is a massive game for both clubs. Neither side are playing with any real conviction right now and this could be an edgy kind of game, with players on both sides afraid of making mistakes. Right now it’s very hard to make a case for either team picking up the win. Derby are just not scoring enough goals to win football matches, while Cardiff aren’t looking great at either end of the pitch and have been very poor at home this term. So backing the draw at 9/4 looks about the best option here.

Head to Head

Cardiff have won 4 of their last 6 home games against Derby including a 2-1 win last season.

Cardiff Team News

Cardiff Team Badge Anthony Pilkington, Aron Gunnarsson and Frederic Gounongbe all missed the weekend win through injury and are hoping to be fit for this one. New left-back Joe Bennett is still out with an injury.

Derby County Team News

Derby County Team Badge Johnny Russell and James Wilson could return to the squad. However defender Jason Shackell is out for a month with a calf problem.
