Dundee and Dumbarton clash in the Scottish League Cup on Saturday afternoon. Our betting tips suggest we will see a comfortable home win here.

Dundee vs Dumbarton Predictions, Betting Tips and Match Previews

Reason For Dundee vs Dumbarton Betting Tips

Dundee have left themselves quite a bit of work to do in order to make the last 16 of the League Cup. They were beaten on penalties at East Fife in their first game after being held to a 1-1 draw by the lower league outfit. Providing they win this game, they’ll still be expected to qualify with games against Peterhead and Forfar to come but any slip ups here will leave them in a bit of trouble. Dundee finished 8th in the Premiership last season and have already played Dumbarton in pre-season. They won 2-1 away from home so will be confident they can get the better of the Championship side at Dens Park.

Dumbarton are already on the brink of being knocked out of the competition having picked up just 1 point from their first two games. They lost on penalties to Forfar after a 2-2 draw and were surprisingly beaten 2-0 at home by East Fife last time out. They therefore realistically have to win this game to stand any chance of making the knock-out stage but that won’t be easy for the side that narrowly beat the drop in the Scottish Championship last season.

The hosts will be a week further along fitness-wise than they were at East Fife last weekend when they faded late on and conceded a late leveler. They will look to take the game to their opponents here and they are a side capable of scoring lots of goals against the weaker teams. They hammered Dumbarton 5-0 in the Scottish Cup on their own patch earlier this year and have won 7 of their last 13 home games and that includes a few other convincing wins.

With both sides really needing to win this, it should be an open game with a few goals but Dundee’s extra quality should clearly show and backing Dundee & Over 2.5 Goals at 5/6 looks to offer value here.

Head to Head

Dundee have an excellent record against Dumbarton. The sides met in the Scottish Cup earlier in the year with Dundee winning a home replay 5-0. Dundee won a friendly between the sides 2-1 last month.
