Reason For FC Dordrecht vs Twente Betting Tips
FC Twente’s decent start to life in Eerste Divisie was brought to a shuddering halt by TOP Oss at De Grolsch Veste last weekend. Marino Pusic’s men bid to get back on track this Friday when they face off against second bottom Dordrecht at Riwal Hoogwerkers Stadion.
It’s far too early to suggest that one defeat can put a serious dent in a team’s chase for automatic promotion, but Twente’s 1-2 reversal at home to Top Oss last weekend has to serve as a wake-up call for the Enschede outfit.
Twente were deservedly beaten by one of the league’s surprise packages from the early weeks of the campaign, and they need to bounce straight back in this encounter to keep on the heels of the leaders.
Friday’s visitors are 7th in the table and on seven points heading into match day five, five points adrift of Go Ahead Eagles and three shy of Cambuur and NEC.
With just one automatic promotion place available, it’s imperative for Twente that they stay in the mix or their season aspirations will quickly shift to ensure a Play-off spot is attained.
On the strength of their victories against Sparta Rotterdam (2-1) and Roda JC (3-1), Twente should take all the beating here, as they line up against Dordrecht for the first time since the 2014/15 Eredivisie campaign.
Twente have won three and drawn one of their four previous meetings with Dordrecht, and judging by the dismal form of Friday’s hosts, that record is likely to be enhanced come match day five.
Dordrecht bagged a Play-off place last term by virtue of topping the Period 3 standings, but they’ve looked woefully short of achieving such heights again in the opening weeks of the season.
Gerard de Nooijer’s men played out a 0-0 stalemate with Helmond Sport on match day one, but have since lost their next three league outings, including a 5-2 drubbing against Jong Ajax in Amsterdam and a 1-4 hiding at home to Telstar last weekend.
They go into Friday’s game in 19th place as a result and could well find themselves bottom after the weekend, should they fail to collect anything here.
Looking back to last term, Dordrecht generally held their own at Riwal Hoogwerkers Stadion with seven defeats from 19 games – but they did concede two goals on average across those fixtures.
That contributed to 81 goals conceded in total and De Nooijer’s side boasted the second worse defence in the division, despite finishing 14th and making the Play-offs.
With ten goals conceded in their last three fixtures, their defensive woes have clearly not been solved over the summer, and they’re likely to finish far closer to the foot of the table this season if they’re as porous again throughout the campaign.
Twente have scored eight goals in their four matches thus far, and the likes of Tom Boere and Usman Bapoh, who have five of those goals between them, should be relishing the prospect of taking on the suspect Dordrecht rear guard.
Twente’s unexpected loss last weekend is a concern for us here, but we expect a sharp response from Marino Pusic’s charges.
Dordrecht are hapless at the moment, and Friday’s game really does provide Twente with the perfect opportunity to get back on course. We think they will, and we also think both teams will score – a feature of six from eight games contested by the teams this season.
We’re also backing FC Twente to register a 1-3 success, as they should get plenty of opportunities to make this comfortable against the hosts’ nervy back line.
Head to Head
FC Twente have never lost to Dordrecht, winning three and drawing one of their four previous meetings. However, this will be the first time the teams have squared off since the 2014/15 campaign.
FC Dordrecht vs Twente Stats
- Dordrecht have conceded ten goals in their last three Eerste Divisie outings.
- Their defensive problems are a continuation of last season when they conceded 81 goals in total – the second worst record in the league.
- Both teams have scored in six of the eight Eerste Divisie games contested by these teams so far this term.
FC Dordrecht Team News
Striker Terence Groothusen is the only definite absentee for Dordrecht with a cruciate injury. Manager Gerard de Nooijer is expected to shuffle his pack after his side’s heavy 1-4 loss to Telstar last week. Renny Smith could come into the midfield for Savvas Mourgos whilst wingers Jeremy Cijntje and Omran Haydary will be pushing for starts after substitute appearances on match day four.
Twente Team News
Twente were poor in defeat to TOP Oss at De Grolsch Veste last week but boss Marino Pusic is unlikely to rock the boat with wholesale changes. In form striker Tom Boere should start again up front for the visitors but midfielders Harris Vuckic and Oussama Assaidi are still out of contention with knee injuries.
