France vs Albania Predictions, Betting Tips and Match Previews

Reason For France vs Albania Betting Tips

France got their host nation Euro 2016 campaign off to a winning start on Friday as they beat Romania in dramatic fashion. The journey wasn’t without it’s hiccups though, as the Romania team fought hard and defended with determination.

It was the underdogs that almost opened the scoring as well as a corner evaded everybody and was almost stabbed home by Stancu, but Hugo Lloris produced a great reflex save to push it away. France matched their opponents as Olivier Giroud headed narrowly wide before Antoine Griezmann struck the post, but soon the hosts found their rhythm. The teams went into the break goalless, but Dimitri Payet’s influence was evident as he created chance after chance for Griezmann and Giroud. He was at it again when his cross picked out Giroud after half-time, who took advantage of the goalkeepers mistake to head in the first goal of the tournament. Patrice Evra gave away a penalty eight minutes later though, with Stancu stepping up and wrong footing the keeper to draw level. It looked like it would end all square then as the Romanians sat back, but the best player on the pitch, Payet, was on hand to lash in a memorable strike in the 89th minute to win the game, shortly before leaving the pitch in tears.

It may have been more difficult and closer than they expected, but France claimed all three points and that’s all that matters at this stage. They will now want a win against Albania to extend their winning streak to six matches and put themselves in prime position to top Group A.

Albania won’t be an easy match either though. They started their first ever European Championship match nervously, and within five minutes they were down as Fabian Schar headed in after catching goalkeeper Etrit Berisha in no mans’ land. But the Albanians grew into the game, with Armando Sadiku missing a great opportunity. Things were made incredibly difficult for Albania when captain Lorik Cana was sent off for a handball though, but even after this they performed admirably. Substitute Shkelzen Gashi almost levelled the scores late on as well, but spurned his one on one with Yann Sommer.

This was just the 2nd defeat for Albania in their last seven matches, and they have managed to win three matches during this time. They even managed to beat France at home and draw with them away in the last couple of years, so all is not lost for them yet.

But this will be incredibly difficult for Albania. They didn’t embarrass themselves on Saturday, but there is no doubt whatsoever about who are the more talented side. The France midfield were exceptional against Romania and the likes of Griezmann and Payet can change the game at any point. The French defence is a clear worry for them, but Albania’s quality of finishing against an equally poor Switzerland defence wasn’t up to scratch.

France took a bit of time to get in to the match on Friday, but that’s understandable given they haven’t played a competitive match since the World Cup in Brazil. The opener will have done them a world of good and I think they’ll be even better against Albania, but that defence will still be a worry. Albania have conceded 11 goals in their last seven games though, and none were against opposition anywhere near as good as France.

Meanwhile, France have scored three goals per game on average over their last five matches, but have conceded seven times as well. This makes a high scoring game a likelihood, especially if France can get an early goal, so odds of 5/6 for a France Win and Over 2.5 Goals look good value. I’m going for a 3-1 win for the hosts at 14/1.

Head to Head

Albania won the last meeting between these sides last June, but prior to that they had never beaten France, with France taking four wins and one draw from their previous five encounters.

France Team News

France Team Badge France are likely to start with the same 4-3-3 set up as they did against Romania, with Hugo Lloris in goal, Bacary Sagna, Adil Rami, Laurent Koscielny, and Patrice Evra making up the back line, Paul Pogba, N'Golo Kante, and Blaise Matuidi in midfield, and Dimitri Payet, Antoine Griezmann, and Olivier Giroud up front. Payet will undoubtedly keep Anthony Martial out of the starting line up after his excellent display and stunning winner on Friday.

Albania Team News

Albania Team Badge Captain and key centre back Lorik Cana will be suspended after getting sent off against Switzerland. Other than that they will probably stick to the same team that performed admirably against a more talented Switzerland side.
