Freiburg vs Wolfsburg Predictions, Betting Tips and Match Previews

Reason For Freiburg vs Wolfsburg Betting Tips

Last weekend’s 3-1 win away to Werder Bremen marked the first time that Freiburg have won back-to-back top flight matches since the spring of 2013. 22-year-old forward Maximillian Philipp, who is Freiburg’s top goalscorer, got the ball rolling with the opener against Bremen, his 2nd in three matches and 5th goal of the season overall. His form definitely warrants consideration for an anytime goalscorer bet against the out-of-form Wolfsburg at 5/2 with bet365. Coach Christian Streich – the man who guided Freiburg to UEFA Europa League football in extraordinary fashion in 2013 –  should not only be content with his striker’s form, but also with the 12 points taken from his side’s four matches at home – joint best in the Bundesliga alongside Hertha Berlin.

An unpromising start under interim coach Valerien Ismael means that Wolfsburg are on track to replicate, if not do worse, than their disappointing campaign last season. Wolfsburg have lost both of their matches since former coach Dieter Hecking was replaced, with last week’s 2-1 defeat at home to Bayer Leverkusen being particularly bitter. Maximilian Arnold put Wolfsburg ahead with his first of the season shortly before half-time. However, Leverkusen’s late pressure earnt them two goals within 4 minutes and was enough to see Wolfsburg leave with nothing. Wolfsburg are now without a win in eight consecutive Bundesliga matches (D3 L5).

Though Freiburg haven’t beaten Wolfsburg in six competitive meetings (D1 L5), we feel the hosts are the better bet here. Not only do Freiburg come into this off the back of 10 consecutive home league wins (four Bundesliga and six 2. Bundesliga), but opponents Wolfsburg are hugely out-of-form and have lost six of their last 9 Bundesliga away matches (66%). Notably, Freiburg have an impressive track record against Wolfsburg on their home turf – Freiburg have won 6 and drawn 3 of the 12 meetings in Freiburg. As such, odds of 1.975 for Freiburg 0.0 Asian Handicap with bet365 seem extremely generous and make that our main tip for this match.

Freiburg’s “perfect” start to the season at home has seen them score an average of just under 2 goals per match in front of their own fans. Though Wolfsburg are the 2nd lowest scoring team in the Bundesliga (6 goals from 9 matches), it must be noted that there has been some positive development under interim coach Ismael – Wolfsburg have scored exactly 1 goal in each match since he took charge. Considering the above, Freiburg to win 2-1 at 9/1 with bet365 for a correct score bet also seems a decent shout.

Head to Head

Wolfsburg won 1-0 at home when the two sides last met in April 2015 in the DFB Pokal quarter-final. Freiburg have won 6, drawn 3 and lost 3 of the total 12 home matches versus Wolfsburg.

Freiburg Team News

Freiburg Team Badge Freiburg center back Marc-Oliver Kempf remains out until December. Loanee centre forward Florian Niederlechner, who has recently returned from an injury spell, featured off the bench last time out.

Wolfsburg Team News

Wolfsburg Team Badge Wolfsburg midfielder Josuha Guilavogui, who signed from Athletico Madrid over the summer, winger Bruno Henrique and right-back Vieirinha are all out. Top scorer attacking midfielder Daniel Didavi (2 goals in 3 appearances) has recovered from injury and could make his return along with centre back Jeffrey Bruma, who has served out his red card suspension.
