The UEFA Europa League qualifier between Jeunesse d’Esch and St Patrick’s Athletic concludes on Tuesday. Our betting tips suggest the Irish side will scrape through to the next round.

Jeunesse Esch vs St Patricks Predictions, Betting Tips and Match Previews

Reason For Jeunesse Esch vs St Patricks Betting Tips

The 1st Leg last week in Dublin was settled by an early Chris Fagan goal that has given St Patrick’s a 1 goal lead to take into the 2nd leg. While they may have been hoping for a bigger margin, their ability to keep a clean sheet has put them in a strong position and they are favourites to win both on the night and to progress into the next round.

St Patrick’s aren’t playing particularly well right now though. Prior to their victory over the side from Luxembourg they’d lost 3 games in a row in all competitions, scoring just 1 goal and conceding 9. They are only 6th in the League of Ireland and a run in Europe could help to salvage something from their faltering campaign. They don’t have a good recent away record in Europe though and haven’t won on the road in this competition since a trip to Valletta in 2009.

As for Jeunesse d’Esch they are still in the very early stages of the pre-season for their league campaign which starts next month. They were beaten at home by some of the stronger sides in Luxembourg last term and aren’t a great side in truth but will take heart from having competed well in the 1st Leg. They’ve lost 5 of their last 6 home games in Europe but did beat Finnish side TPS 2-0 at home in 2013 to progress from this round.

The bookies have St Patrick’s as pretty clear favourites to win on the night but given the 1st Leg was a close affair along with the facts that the Irish side haven’t been in good form and don’t have a good record  away in Europe, you can’t write off Jeunesse d’Esch. This is likely to be a very close game and backing Double Chance – Jeunesse d’Esch or Draw at 8/11 looks to offer value.
