Reason For PEC Zwolle vs Heerenveen Betting Tips
Two of last seasons mid table rivals go head to head on the opening day of the new Eredivisie season, as Zwolle play host to Heerenveen on Friday evening. Just one place separated the pair last season, and both teams goals for the new season will be qualification for Europe and three points on the opening day will certainly provide a confidence boost.
Zwolle are yet to spend over £1m on a single player this season, despite selling young centre back Philippe Sandler to Manchester City for £2.25m. There was a big clear out of the club over the summer, with much of the deadwood being released on a free transfer including, Kvida, Bakker, Nijland, Mokhtar, van de Pavert, Karagounis, Marinus, Parzyszek, and Saymak.
Defender Darryl Lachman arrived on a free transfer from Willem II, while Zwolle paid £675k for Excelsior’s van Duinen, £585k on Vitesse’s van Crooij, £315k on Leemans, and just under £400k on youngsters Hamer from Feyenoord and Flemming of Ajax. There have certainly been more outs than ins at Zwolle this summer, but there is still time for last seasons ninth placed club to improve their playing staff.
The first game of a new season can often be very hard to predict as both teams have signed new players that can take time to settle at the club. However, one thing we know about games between Zwolle and Heerenveen is that they tend to be open, attacking affairs in which both teams are presented with plenty of scoring opportunities. Zwolle have the edge in recent seasons over Heerenveen with four wins and one defeat from their last four meetings, and will be the favourites on Friday, thanks to their home advantage.
Heerenveen finished eighth last season despite looking early on like they might have what it takes to challenge for the Champions League places. First choice right back Denzel Dumfries has made the move to champions PSV Eindhoven for just under £5m, being replaced by Sparta’s Sherel Floranus who cost a fraction of the price at £495k. Manchester City’s Rodney Kongolo joins the Eredivisie side for under £1m, while PSV have sent striker Sam Lammers on loan for the season.
There hasn’t been a great deal of business done by Heerenveen just yet, and it is yet to be seen as to whether or not they have adequately replaced right back Dumfries. The aim for Heerenveen this season has to be European football, with a desperate need to address their inconsistencies of the previous campaign, which no doubt cost them dearly.
We’re confident that both teams will score in Friday’s opening game in the Eredivisie, as this fixture and these teams like to play football, score goals, and rarely keep clean sheets. Five of the last six meetings between Zwolle and Heerenveen have seen both teams score, while both teams have scored in four of Zwolle’s last six matches and five of Heerenveen’s. In terms of a final score, we’re backing the game to end 1-1 and for both teams to be relatively satisfied with a share of the spoils.
Head to Head
These two teams have met just sixteen times before, and with 7 wins, 4 draws, and 5 defeats it's Heerenveen who edge the head to head record.
