Reason For PSG vs St Etienne Betting Tips
Both of these sides are still to lose in the league this season but with the champions welcoming a team who they haven’t lost to since 2012, they’ll be hoping for another confident performance in this one.
Saint-Étienne, like many other teams, have really struggled against Paris in recent years. They haven’t been able to get one over on them in any of their last 16 attempts and even though they are still to lose in this campaign, we doubt they’ll get anything substantial from this match.
They began the season with a solid 2-1 win over Guingamp with Lois Diony and new signing Wahbi Khazri looking impressive. In their three matches since, they have only managed to score once, though. Three consecutive draws with Strasbourg, Montpellier and Amiens have slightly taken the wind out of the Verts’ sails and this will be so disappointing for their fans after the events of last season.
Étienne missed out on European qualification on goal difference in a season where they had a multitude of opportunities to pick up a vital extra point. Last minute goals from Monaco, Rennes and a 92nd minute Mathieu Debuchy own goal against 10-men PSG all cost them points last season, taking away that opportunity of another year amongst Europe’s elite.
They have shown elements of class at times this season but with them getting no wins against three teams who finished in last year’s bottom eleven, it may be difficult for them to get back into the top six this time round. They haven’t scored in any of their last two games and with them having a negative goal difference despite finishing 7th last season, they will really need to find goals from somewhere, but their top scorer Jonathan Bamba left for Lille in the summer and his replacement Khazri is still only on one goal for the season. This lack of a deadly striker cold come back to bite them in this match against PSG.
Paris have obviously been so dominant in France for years and are still to lose or draw this season, but they only have one clean sheet from their opening four games of the campaign and conceded twice last time out to newly promoted Nimes. Saint-Étienne don’t have the best attack but will be hoping to maybe nick one against this suspect back-four.
PSG will be confident that their men at the other side of the pitch can do the job necessary to get the point here though. They have scored 13 goals this season and bagged the most last year with a whopping 108 in 38 games. The front three of Edinson Cavani, Neymar and Kylian Mbappé got more goals between them than every team outside of the top four last year and with the trio already sitting on 10, it will be a frightening prospect for the Étienne defence.
They have been scoring freely in their games so far with at least three goals in every match and we’re backing that to continue in this one. Saint-Étienne have been pretty stoic opposition this season with two clean sheets but their statistics for goals conceded last year matched some of the worst teams in the league and we think that Paris will have a field day in this one. The Verts have failed to convert against Amiens and Montpellier this year, so we doubt they’ll get a goal at the Parc des Princes. We’re going to back a 3-0 win for the Champions in this one.
Head to Head
PSG have won 40 of the last 68 games between these two sides but Saint-Etienne haven't won any of the last 16 matches.

PSG Team News
Kylian Mbappe will miss the next three games after lashing out in the dying minutes of Paris' last games against Nimes, he will watch the games from the stand alongside Dani Alves who is out with a long-term knee injury. Layvin Kurzawa and Marco Verratti are expected back soon and could feature in this game. Lassana Diarra is a doubt.
St Etienne Team News
Neven Subotic is still missing after picking up a red card against Strasbourg but Romain Hamouma is back in training and will probably play some part in this game. Mathieu Debuchy and Remy Cabella are doubts for this one.
