Reason For RKC Waalwijk vs Roda JC Betting Tips
The teams currently sitting 10th and 11th in Eerste Divisie square off at Mandemakers Stadion this Friday evening as Roda JC make the trip to face RKC Waalwijk.
It’s been a mixed start to the campaign for the sides who both have two wins and two defeats on the board after four games, but it’s Friday’s visitors Roda JC who would’ve hoped for a better return after coming down from Eredivisie last season.
Robert Molenaar’s men were amongst the favourites for promotion pre-season and got off to a fantastic start on the opening night with a 2-1 victory at home to reigning champions Jong Ajax.
The Kerkrade outfit followed up with an impressive 1-2 success at Almere City the week after, but have since suffered damaging defeats to promotion rivals FC Twente and NEC.
Roda were soundly beaten 3-1 in Enschede on match day three but will be more disappointed at their reversal last week having twice held the lead at home to Jack de Gier’s NEC, before goals from Sven Braken and Anass Achahbar sealed their fate.
Roda are already well off the pace as a result and know that they simply can’t lose out regularly to their fellow big guns as they target an automatic spot.
At this moment in time, qualifying for the Play-offs looks a realistic ambition for Molenaar’s side, but optimism may drain further should they fail to take care of RKC this Friday.
Hosts Waalwijk have been struggling in the second tier for a few years now, but like Roda, they got their campaign off on the right note with back to back wins against Telstar (1-0) and Den Bosch (2-3).
The temporary bubble was burst somewhat though on match days three and four as RKC came up against strong opposition for the first time.
Fred Grim’s charges were edged out 0-1 by Sparta Rotterdam at Mandemakers Stadion a fortnight ago and they were comprehensively beaten 2-0 at high flying Cambuur last week.
Grim will be far more pleased with six points than Molenaar when taking stock of the first four weeks of the campaign considering RKC’s 18th place finish last term, and the former Ajax goalkeeper would probably take a mid-table spot at the end of the season now if offered to him. RKC’s challenge this season is ultimately to make steady progress and ensure they start regularly beating the teams that aren’t expected to mount a promotion challenge.
There’s possibly less pressure on the hosts this Friday then, who would probably view a draw as a good result, but that will not be the case for Roda JC and Molenaar who need to get back on track.
Overall, Roda do appear to have a class edge on their opponents and look dangerous up front with Eerste Divisie joint top scorer Mario Engels on a hot run of form with five goals notched so far.
The teams haven’t played each other since 2015, giving us little to go on from that point of view, so we’re cautiously backing the visitors to end their slump based on the calibre of opposition that they accounted for in the first two weeks.
For a bit of extra juice to our bet, we’re also throwing in both teams to score, considering the visitors have conceded six in their last two matches and at least once in each game played this season.
In terms of correct score, we think it will be fairly close with Roda pulling ahead late on, so 1-2 to Molenaar’s men is our tentative selection.
Head to Head
These teams haven't met since the 2014/15 Eerste Divisie campaign when the sides both won on their home ground. RKC lead the overall head to head between with clubs, with 18 wins to Roda's 12 from 39 matches.

RKC Waalwijk Team News
There are no injury concerns for RKC who were comfortably beaten 2-0 at Cambuur last week. Nonetheless, boss Fred Grim is unlikely to make too many changes for the visit of Roda JC. Grim will be hoping that in form striker Mauro Bilate can lead his team back to winning ways.
Roda JC Team News
Robert Molenaar has no injuries or suspensions to worry about for the trip to Waalwijk. Molenaar could make some changes after Roda’s 2-3 defeat to NEC last week, and striker Tim Vayrnen is fancied to start in place of the ineffective Ba-Muaka Simakala. Star man and joint top Eerste Divisie scorer Mario Engels features again on the right of a front three for the visitors.
