Senegal vs Algeria predictions for this Monday’s African Cup of Nations Group B clash. Our betting tips suggest Algeria will claim their first victory of the tournament.

Senegal vs Algeria Predictions, Betting Tips and Match Previews

Reason For Senegal vs Algeria Betting Tips

Senegal have been arguably the most impressive side at the African Cup of Nations. They also came into the competition with the only 100% record in qualifying and as Africa’s number one ranked team, a title recently held by Algeria. All things seem to be in place for them to make a strong challenge to win the tournament outright but to do that they’d be wise to rest players here.

Having won their opening two group games, they’ve booked their place in the Quarter Finals and have also won the group as even if they lose and Tunisia win, they’ll still come out on top via the head-to-head record.  They’ll have had to play 3 knock-out games in the space of 9 days if they reach the final so this seems like the ideal opportunity to give their fringe players a go and rest the likes of Liverpool’s Sadio Mane, who has the potential to fire them all the way to glory here in Gabon.

That can only benefit Algeria, who haven’t been at their best so far but do have a bit of experience of playing crunch games in major tournaments following their excellent showing at the 2014 World Cup. Their star player has also turned up with Riyadh Mahrez netting a brace in Algeria’s opening game against Zimbabwe. Backing Mahrez to score anytime could be a smart move here and the Leicester man has scored 5 goals in his last 6 appearances for the national side.

Algeria have to win to stand any chance of qualifying for the last eight and you’d have thought there is too much quality in this side for them to go home without putting in at least one performance of genuine quality. They were in a similar situation to this at the 2015 African Cup of Nations, when they beat Senegal 2-0 in their final group game to secure progress and they ought to be the more motivated side here.

They do boast genuine strength in depth too so it wouldn’t be a huge shock if they made a few changes. If Senegal do rest players, which seems likely, they’ll be left relying on an inexperienced side to take on arguably the strongest team in African football, on paper at least. That makes the Desert Warriors the favourites here and if they can cut down on defensive errors which have cost them in their opening games, they should possess the firepower to win this and backing Algeria Draw No Bet at 4/6 looks a decent punt.

Head to Head

The sides last met in a 2015 friendly with Algeria winning 1-0. The North Africans also won the last competitive meeting, a 3-2 win in a World Cup Qualifier in 2008.

Senegal Team News

Senegal Team Badge Senegal have the luxury of being able to rotate their squad here given they've already won this group. The likes of Mohamed Diamé and Cheikh N'Doye are likely to be among a host of players who come into the starting eleven. Star man Sadio Mane could be rested.

Algeria Team News

Algeria Team Badge Algeria may make changes as they desperately try to stay in the competition. Midfielder Sofiane Hanni is one contender to come in after coming off the bench to score last time out. Islam Slimani will again lead the line with Riyad Mahrez on the wing, the main source of inspiration.
