Reason For St Pauli vs Darmstadt Betting Tips

St Pauli got the most out of their new signings in their season opener against the newly-promoted FC Magdeburg last weekend. Both Mats Daehli and Marvin Knoll found themselves thrown straight into coach Markus Kauczinski’s starting XI, with the latter, a former Jahn Regensburg midfielder, marking his St Pauli debut with the deciding goal in a 2-1 win. Pauli fans will be hoping that this result is a sign of things to come, having seen just five league wins in 2018 before that (W5 D4 L7).

Darmstadt coach Dirk Schuster was another manager who was rewarded for putting his faith in two newcomers last weekend. Forward Serdar Dursun also scored a winning goal – a 1-0 Darmstadt win over newly-promoted SC Paderborn – on his debut performance, while center back Marcel Franke (from Norwich) did his fair share of work in helping keep a clean sheet. Darmstadt’s defense looked generally better drilled than last season, which could be in part thanks to the departure of the often criticised Kevin Großkreutz.

Coming into this clash, form, which includes friendly fixtures, looks to be even enough. Darmstadt are able to boast a 1-1 draw against Premier League outfit Huddersfield Town, while St Pauli got one over Championship side Stoke City in a 2-0 win. However, after looking closer at summer transfers, club activity – neither team has changed management – and competitive form from last season, Darmstadt 98 look to be the value here.

Darmstadt’s win last weekend sees them unbeaten across 12 consecutive Bundesliga 2 matches (W6 D6), winning each of the last four, and they head to the Millerntor-Stadion as a sturdy travelling side, unbeaten in five away outings (W2 D3). Meanwhile, St Pauli may have made a few smart transfers over the summer, but none of these new signings have a proven scoring record. St Pauli were the joint lowest scoring team in the league last season and it’s tough to see where goals are going to come from, especially against a rivitalised Darmstadt defense. With the visitors also boasting a 100% win record against the hosts, all the signs point to Darmstadt for Friday.

Today's Tips
