England vs India Betting Tips & Predictions
England v India betting tips for the 1st ODI have been placed below. England take on India in the first of three ODIs starting off from Thursday, July 12 at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. With the T20I series lost, England will now need to turn their focus on their favourite format since 2015 and regain some respectability going into the main deal – the five Tests later this summer.
It was a reasonably hard-fought series but with India winning it in the end, the knives could be back out at England if they do not match up with India in their performances during the ODIs. A 5-0 win against Australia could soon be forgotten if India can repeat the results of the T20Is in this ODI series as well.
To be fair to England, their T20I record over the last couple of years hasn’t been that great but when it comes to ODIs, it can easily be called the best team in this format of the game in its history. And while India will be tough opponents, having last lost a bilateral ODI series way back in January 2016, England might just start favourites here.
HEAD TO HEAD
India and England have an interesting ODI history, with England having dominated them till almost the year 2002 – the two teams had met 41 times and England led India 22-19 in their head to head till then.
Since that fateful NatWest Final that saw India chase down a record score and the then-captain Sourav Ganguly take his t-shirt off, India have won 33 and lost just 17 ODIs to England. The last series between these two teams was played in India and the hosts had won it 2-1.
There have been question-marks over the presence of Joe Root in the white-ball format but he’s a class player and on surfaces that might not be as batting-conducive, a very necessary batting giant in the playing XI. Highly doubtful he will get the sack from the ODI set-up but that begs the question who will England replace to get Ben Stokes in.
Eoin Morgan(c), Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Alex Hales, Joe Root, Jos Buttler, Moeen Ali, Ben Stokes, David Willey, Liam Plunkett, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood, Jake Ball, Sam Curran
There was an injury issue for Bhuvneshwar Kumar and the question now is whether he is fit enough to return to bowl. If so, Deepak Chahar will have to sit out. Also Kuldeep Yadav might replace Sid Kaul while the bigger question is where will KL Rahul bat – one of the top four positions in all probabilities.
Virat Kohli(c), Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Lokesh Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, MS Dhoni, Dinesh Karthik, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Shardul Thakur, Hardik Pandya, Siddarth Kaul, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Suresh Raina, Umesh Yadav, Axar Patel
England v India 1st ODI Predictions & Tips:
Over 613.5Total Runs in the Match
It’s hard to believe but since the previous World Cup, this ground in Nottingham has an average run-rate of 7.26 runs per over, which is the highest for any ground that’s hosted more than one game – and that’s across the world. It wouldn’t come as a surprise, then, that two very powerful batting line-ups in the world will see scores in excess of 300 scored with much ease and as a result Over 613.5 Runs in the Match.
EnglandMost Sixes in the Match
Since the previous World Cup – and the reason for that period is that England showed a dramatic turnaround in both tactics and results since their first round ouster in that competition – England have hit more than six sixes every innings on an average, which is the highest for any team. India have done well too but their average comes to less than five a game, which is why the odds of 4/5 for England to hit most sixes are quite tempting.
