Type of player suited to challenge
Gullane is a tough test with wind whipping across it, but with a sunny weather forecast suggests birdies should be plentiful. Support strong links performers who are sharp on the greens and have a strong short game.

Rickie Fowler4pts Each Way
The only course winner in this field having won here back in 2015 and he generally loves links golf. His form figures in the Scottish Open read 8-1-9 and he has twice finished in the top 5 of the Open Championship. He’s comfortably playing away from America with victories in Korea, Abu Dhabi and the Bahamas. Yet to win in 2018 but he was just one shot shy of Patrick Reed in the US Masters and he arrives in Scotland off the back of four consecutive top-20’s.
Mikko Ilonen1pt Each Way
Fresh off his summer break the Finnish ace headed to the Irish Open last week where he struck the ball well finishing third for greens in regulation and carding four rounds of par or better. He only managed a 19th place finish after a poor performance with the short stick. Ilonen is comfortable on links terrain, he won the Irish Open in 2014 and posted four rounds of par or better at this track in 2015.
Benjamin Hebert0.5pts Each Way
Six-time Challenge Tour champion is overdue a breakthrough on the European Tour. Herbert finished up in a share of 28th last week at the Irish Open and has the tools to handle a firm, fast links course. He finished fourth in the 2015 Dunhill Links Championship and eighth in the 2017 Irish Open.
