The above list shows where the top 20 players in the betting are placed in the draw. With a very short frame format of best of 7 frames up until the quarter final we could see some value from the outsiders in the betting. However there is still a very strong field to come through as all the world’s top 16 players are in the draw. There is a 128 man field so four selections will be given here for the outright betting.
“The Warrior” has had a good season so far winning the Paul Hunter Classic, the Six-red World Championship and the recent German Masters. He is currently sixth best in the match win percentage and is improving with each passing year. The draw has been kind to Wilson here he starts against Andy Lee who he beat 6-0 in this season’s UK Championship.
73% match win rate this season (53/73)
“The Angry Farmer” has been in good form this season, he sits 11th in the match win percentage and has climbed to 17th in the world rankings. Gilbert’s last two ranking tournaments has seen him reach a final of the German Masters and a quarter final of the World Grand Prix. He will be a big price here as this is a difficult quarter of the draw to progress through, but he starts against Jimmy Robertson who he leads 3-0 in the head to head.
65% match win rate this season (36/55)
“The Magician” has not had his best season but has still made one final (Scottish Open) and one semi-final (Champion of Champions). Therefore Murphy goes into this a long shot in the betting, but at a tempting price for an each way bet for a player that has made 19 ranking event finals. Adam Stefanow is the first round opponent. Murphy won the only match between the pair 4-2 in 2017.
55% match win rate this season (17/31)
‘The Hawk’ has been showing signs of the form that seen him reach world number 7. He got to the semi final of the latest ranking event (World Grand Prix) beating Ryan Day, Marco Fu and Kyren Wilson before narrowly missing out 6-5 to the in form Judd Trump. Hawkins again represents good value in his quarter of the draw if he can continue those performances.
