Reason for Detroit Lions vs Chicago Bears Betting tips
Thanksgiving Day kicks off with the Lions continuing their tradition of suiting up on Turkey Day. They are set to face off in their 79th Thanksgiving Day game and this year it will be against their division rival Chicago Bears, who currently sit at 7-3 atop the NFC North. Detroit isn’t technically out of the playoff race just yet, but their chances are very slim and could be totally erased with a loss to Chicago this Thursday.
Detroit is trying to ride some momentum from their win this past weekend over the Panthers. It was a great performance by the Lions’ defense, as they were able to limit the Panthers to just 56 rushing yards and managed to pick QB Cam Newton off once. For the offense, RB Kerryon Johnson had a big day on the ground as he racked up 87 yards and a touchdown on just 15 carries. But it seems as though Johnson might miss out this Thursday due to a knee injury he picked up against Carolina, which would be a huge loss for a Lions’ offense that has been incredibly inconsistent this season.
Chicago had a much more convincing win this past weekend as they dismantled the Vikings on Sunday Night Football by a score of 25-20. The final score makes it seem a lot closer than it was as the Vikings scored a garbage time touchdown at the end of the game to bring the deficit to five. But the reality is that the Bears’ defense was sensational as they picked off QB Kirk Cousins twice, forced a fumble, scored on a pick-six, and limited the Vikes to just 22 rushing yards. LB Khalil Mack was all over the place which helped him achieve an absurd game grade of 97.2 on Pro Football Focus. The offense had some struggles in the second half, but the Bears’ receivers were able to make enough plays to secure the victory.
With all things considered, we think the Bears’ defense should continue their dominance which is why we are recommending both the Bears on the point spread and on the double result. The Chicago defense has been great all season, which is why PFF has them graded as the top overall defense, top run defense, and top coverage group in all of football. The Lions will struggle to get going on the ground, which will force QB Matthew Stafford into some tough situations. Stafford didn’t play great against the Bears a week ago when they faced off at Soldier Field and we don’t think he’ll be able to rebound in a short time frame against this defensive front. The Lions’ offensive line will not be able to handle Hicks and Mack, which should lead to a long day for Stafford and the Lions’ aerial attack.
On the other side of the ball, the Bears will feed RB Tarik Cohen and try to get him in space against a Lions’ coverage group that PFF has graded as the second worst in the league. Cohen will run circles around the Lions’ linebackers and open up the sidelines for single coverage throws to Allen Robinson and Taylor Gabriel. The Bears should roll in this one and it will start with them dominating the battle in the trenches.
In addition to the spread, we also love the value on the double result for Chicago. As evidenced above, we think Chicago will win this one handily so the only concern would be them leading at halftime. That shouldn’t be a problem as the Bears have an average 1st half point differential of 10.2 while Detroit’s is much worse at -1. The Bears have had the lead at half in 8 of their 10 games this season and with the way they are playing we think the double result offers great value on them to continue to roll.
