Reason for New Orleans Saints vs Atlanta Falcons Betting tips

The finale of Thanksgiving Day promises to be a shootout as the Falcons visit the Superdome to take on the Saints. New Orleans has now won nine straight since their Week 1 loss to the Bucs and are now concerned with locking up home-field advantage for the NFC rounds of the playoffs. On the other sideline, the Falcons’ playoff hopes are all but gone after a heart-wrenching loss to the Cowboys this past weekend. There still is a glimmer of hope for Falcons’ fans, but the NFL’s best team should end it this Thursday night.

As mentioned, the Falcons fell to the Cowboys by a score of 22-19 this past Sunday. Overall, it was a fine performance from an Atlanta defense that usually gets shredded. They only gave up 22 points and limited Dallas’ success through the air, but the only person they couldn’t stop was RB Ezekiel Elliot. Zeke had 200+ scrimmage yards and what would be the game winning touchdown and it seemed like there was nothing Atlanta could do to stop him. Offensively, Atlanta struggled to get anything going on the ground and QB Matt Ryan just couldn’t make enough plays against a good Cowboys defense.

The Saints had another easy week as they embarrassed the defending Super Bowl champion Eagles 48-7. New Orleans’ offense was literally unstoppable as the Ingram/Kamara combo racked up over 170 yards and 2 TDs on the ground while QB Drew Brees added over 360 yards and 4 TDs through the air. What was just as impressive was the Saints’ defense, which seems to really be coming around after a horrendous start to the season. They held Philly to just 58 yards on the ground while managing to pick off Eagles’ QB Carson Wentz three times. It was another statement win for the Super Bowl favorite and they’ll look to keep rolling against an Atlanta side that won’t have much to throw back at them.

With all things considered, we are recommending the over on the points total and the Saints to cover nearly two touchdowns on the point spread. For the over, we think this will be a classic shootout between these two sides as both offenses are very efficient and love to air it out. The Saints have scored an average of 48 points in their last 3 games and all of those defenses they’ve faced (Rams, Bengals, Eagles) are better than the Atlanta defense. Currently, the Falcons’ defense is graded as the 5th worst overall unit and 3rd worst tackling unit by Pro Football Focus, so we don’t think they’ll stand a chance against this Saints’ attack.

On the other side, the Falcons love to air it out themselves and should be able to score in the mid-2os against a Saints’ defense that doesn’t have great match-ups this week against the Falcons’ receiving corps. With the Falcons in the mid 20s and the Saints pushing at 40, we think there is definitely value on taking the over on the points total.

In terms of the spread, we like the Saints to cover for a lot of the reasons already mentioned. The Falcons’ offense is good but won’t be able to keep up with a Saints’ offense that realistically can score on every possession against this Atlanta defense. The Saints’ defense has been playing much better and will be able to get some stops and force some field goals, while the Falcons’ defense won’t be able to do the same on the other end. The Saints will get into the 40s and its tough seeing the Falcons getting over 30 considering how inconsistent their offense has been on the road this year. Look for the Saints to continue their dominance against the spread by covering this hefty double-digit mark.
